“Sore nipples, and also sore or tender breasts, are common as women are near menopause and experiencing fluctuations in their hormones,” according to Constance Chen, M.D., plastic surgeon and breast reconstruction specialist in New York City. “It is likely that your nipples will stop hurting after menopause. In fact, some women experience decreased nipple sensation when they’re postmenopausal. But until then, you may need to deal with more tenderness in the nipples.”
