When it comes to breasts, no two pairs are alike—and that’s true for nipples, too. One somewhat common variation: Inverted nipples. This is when a nipple is retracted inwards or is flat rather than pointing outwards, according to Constance Chen, M.D., a plastic surgeon and breast reconstruction specialist in private practice in New York City.
Most of the time, inverted nipples aren’t something to worry about. Although an inverted nipple could be related to breast cancer, that’s not typical.
